Michael Capiraso is dedicated to fitness and loves learning more about the benefits of exercise and sharing his knowledge with others.

As a lifelong runner and fitness enthusiast, Michael Capiraso has a wealth of knowledge and experience. He lives in New York City, and has been deeply invested in the city’s business, sports, and running community for decades. Professionally, he is an accomplished business executive who drives growth and progress through strategic leadership and team building. His roles have often reflected his lifestyle and values.

Michael is more than a casual runner. He has run 28 consecutive New York City Marathons (31 marathons overall) and spent eight years in C-level executive roles for its organizing company, the New York Road Runners (NYRR). This included five years as the CEO and President. The New York City Marathon is the world’s largest marathon. It has 53,000 finishers, reaches hundreds of millions of viewers through global broadcast networks, has raised over 40 million dollars annually for charity, and drives $415 million in economic impact for New York City. Personally, through his years of involvement, Michael has raised 100 thousand dollars for his Team for Kids charity.

With Michael Capiraso’s passion for running and the New York City Marathon, being the CEO of NYRR was a perfect fit. In his years in the role, Michael drove impressive growth and development. His work helped double the organization’s annual revenue to $100 million and added new programs and resources. He created the NYRR Run Center, which provides an inclusive free running community event space. He also launched the One For You, One  For Youth philanthropic campaign, which helped donate New Balance running shoes to children involved in the Rising New York Road Runners program. Michael also fostered and developed strategic sponsorships with TCS, New Balance, Gatorade, UPS, AirBnB, and more.

Prior to working with NYRR, Michael Capiraso worked with several other athletic organizations. He worked as a media consultant with Major League Baseball, then spent four years as the Vice President of Marketing and Executive Creative Director for the National Football League. He helped update branding practices, grew broadcast partnerships, and worked with leading sponsors. Later, Michael worked with Cole Haan, a subsidiary of Nike, building an impressive plan to drive new revenue and reach a wider audience.

Athletics and wellness have been integral to Michael Capiraso’s life for decades. He has loved working with such influential brands, investing in health and communities,  and driving growth for companies he believes in. Michael continues to be dedicated to his fitness and loves learning more about the benefits of exercise and sharing his knowledge with others. Additionally, Michael has been practicing Transcendental Meditation since 2023. Transcendental Meditation is known to significantly improve mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. It promotes relaxation, enhances focus, and fosters a sense of inner peace and well-being, leading to overall better mental health.

His involvement fosters the organization’s vision of positively affecting individuals dealing with mental health difficulties. This role is especially meaningful to Michael, given that his personal experiences deeply echo the principles and objectives of Still I Run. He was named the Interim Board Chairman. He has recently taken a role on the Advisory Board for Fan4Kids. Fan4Kids is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2004 in response to the growing rate of childhood obesity, its related health concerns, and the lack of coordinated and simple solutions to the growing problem.
